Nineteen

It had been a long week of late nights, but now that the trial was over, we could rest a little easier. In celebration, we were all going to head to the bar for a stiff drink.

I just had to change out of my yoga pants first. Jax planned to pick me up at my place. He was in the office for a few extra minutes for paperwork, so I had roughly five minutes before he got here too.

Running into the apartment, I nearly missed seeing one of the biggest things that would change my life. Lola was snorting something over the sink. When she heard the door, she tried to mask what she was doing, but it was too late. I clearly saw what just went up her nose.

“Oh, hey, Cass. I’m just doing some dishes.” She tried to downplay it.

I pointed to my nose while looking at hers. “You didn’t wipe good enough. Got a little white powder hanging around.”

Lola didn’t like that she got caught. I knew addicts from a few women doing drugs at the strip club my mom worked at. If I made it a problem, Lola wouldn’t hear a damn word I said. A plan B was in motion as I walked away from her completely.

I quickly changed into my jean skirt and put on a crop top. Now I might need several stiff ones. Good thing the weekend was kicking off. I’d need a few days to recover.

Putting on my heels, I heard someone knock on the door. One of the other girls opened it because I heard the telling sign of the squeaking joints.

Walking out, I found it was Robin. She was only in a sheer robe and black underwear. I guess being a model let you dress like that whenever you wanted.

Rolling my eyes, I grabbed Bess and headed to the door. I didn’t even let Jax continue his eye-fuck game with her. “I’m ready. Let’s go.”

“Bye, Jaxon,” the bitch giggled.

Good god, I hated her. It only deepened because I knew she was the culprit to Lola’s addiction. And the fact that a man I loved looked like he wanted to devour her.

I didn’t stop bolting to the exit, and Jax seemed to pick up on my testy attitude. He cleared his throat as we rode the elevator down. “You okay?”

“Nope,” I stated.

“Anything I can do?”

“Get me drunk.”

“Roger.” We got off the lift. Getting into his car, we drove to his side of town where they went to an exclusive club.

I knew I was a spitfire, but I didn’t know any other way to handle all my anger. Some would hate me forever for it, but at least I could admit I was being a sourpuss.

The drive was quiet, but Jax didn’t let the calm before the storm last.

“So, your roommate.”

“Mila is great,” I replied. Yeah, I was being petty. It went right over his head.

“No, the redhead I just met.”

“Robin,” I filled in one of the blanks for him.

“Robin. That’s pretty.
