3.3.2 ACI Method

American concrete institute has specified a standard method to determine suitable mixture proportions for concrete. To facilitate a zero slump concrete mixture design, a special annex has been introduced. However, the use of ACI method does not provide a sustainable mixture design, as it uses a high amount of cement paste to gain higher strength classes. According to Shahriar, Amin, Ahmad, and Hossain (2017) the main reason for inconsistencies in the ACI mix design method is because of not accounting for the aggregate surface area when determining the cement paste (Shahriar et al., 2005).
