Chapter Fourteen

Every time Quad thought he was getting a grip on what was going on in his life, someone moved the goal posts away from him. It was all because of that damn black Mercedes SL600 Roadster convertible. If he hadn’t bought the fucking car, he’d never have been stranded in Trinity Valley and tossed into this weird world of wolves, supes, elves, and God-only-knew what else.

He stared at Mike. Was the man even human? He had green eyes like Gypsy, and Gypsy was an elf. And that fucking sheriff, Gypsy’s ex Leif Greene, he had green eyes, too. Was it something about the elf that made those close to him develop green eyes? Were his own eyes going to turn green?

Quad shook himself and tried to get a grip on reality. People’s eyes didn’t change color. Well, apart from newborn babies. Adults like him didn’t change. He was reading too much into eye color when he needed to concentrate on finding out why Lonny had gone ape-shit and where Sam was. Was Sam hurt? Someone had killed Rain. Surely no one would kill Sam.

Fucking hell, my life’s a mess.

Except for Gypsy. Quad let his gaze rest on his mate and breathed slowly, trying to center himself on the man to whom he was tied for the future. A man he was starting to realize was his future. His car breaking down hadn’t been a total disaster. It’d given him Gypsy. Now all he needed to do was get the elves to help him defeat Lonny and rescue his brother.

All? Yeah, hell, it’s a big challenge.

Mike upended the big glass of water on Cothon’s face, and Quad moved closer to Gypsy as the large captive elf coughed, shook himself, and then roared when he found himself tied up.

“Your grandfather isn’t going to like it that you’re disrespecting me like this,” he warned, staring at Gypsy.

“My grandpa who you tried to kill? Who you had to run away from? I think he’ll be very happy when I tell him I have you tied up nice and safe waiting for him to collect.”

Quad flinched at the steel in Gypsy’s voice.

Mike pushed his way past Gypsy and stood over Cothon. “Why did you kill Rain?” he asked.

Cothon killed Rain? Quad just stared them. How did Mike know it’d been Cothon? Well at least Mike didn’t think it was Quad, like the sheriff seemed to.

“Who’s Rain?” asked Cothon, still wriggling madly and trying to pull his wrists free from the duct tape.

Quad watched as Gypsy seemed about to pounce, and then reached out to grab his arm. “Mike’s got this,” he breathed into his lover’s ear. Damn, the elf’s scent was erotic, but now wasn’t the time to be following up those thoughts even though his cock sat up and paid attention.

“Ding. Wrong answer. You know who Rain is. Remember the little auburn haired woman you murdered last night? The elf you murdered? Why did you do it, Cothon?”

“I didn’t do it. I wasn’t here last night.
