Chapter Four

"What?"

"Young girl, are you mad?"

"Calm down, Rachel." The three other Key Guardians said together.

I glanced at Master Philip, who had said the last words. "Calm down? Luther, the evil Luther, has my family."

"You're not sure if Luther really has them. He might just be deceiving you, wanting you to come to him so he could kill you."

"Then I'll go to our house and check for myself."

"No," Master Nathan rushed out. "Luther cannot enter Lupert himself. This might be a ploy to drag you out of here so that he can kill you."

"Then what am I supposed to do?" I asked with frustration. "Just sit here and worry while my family is in danger?"

"Brandon will be back today. I'm sure he'll come with some news. Let us wait," Master Philip told me.

"But they could be killed before then."

"Act rational, Rachel. We don't even know if Luther is truly hiding in Achemje. Besides, even if he was, if you go there yourself, he would kill you and still kill your family. Think before you act. We wait." He stressed the last words out for my benefit.

My father and Gracie were fine.

It wasn't until dinner time that Brandon arrived. Thankfully he came straight to the meeting room. But he wasn't alone. He was with a little girl.

"Gracie." I ran to her and pulled her into my hands. She was sobbing hysterically and holding onto me like I was a lifeline.

"Rachel." She sobbed, and I joined her. I checked her body to make sure she was fine. Thank the Goddess; she was okay. "There were beasts all over. They scared me. They said they were going to kill us." I kept holding her until we both stopped crying.

I looked up at Brandon. "Thank you." Then I glanced around. "Where is my father?"

At the mention of my father, Gracie began crying all over again. "He's still there. He's still with the beasts. Rachel, what are we going to do? They injured his leg."

"What happened?" I asked Brandon.

"I got to the cave, and as we suspected, Luther and his beasts were hiding there. From the place I took cover, I overheard Luther talking about a young girl named Gracie and an older man. He also mentioned your name more than once. I put two and two together and figured he was with your family. I traced where I heard him say your family was being held and when I got there, your father had an injury on his leg, from the claws of a beast, I presume. I
