The second task. To baptize. It’s important to reiterate here that baptism does not save a person who is in rebellion to God, but is an outward symbol of an actual inward work of reconciliation to God in Christ by faith. It is God through His Word by His Spirit Who saves. Again, let’s repeat that - It is God through His Word by His Spirit Who saves. We are to baptize them when they are “seized by the Power of His Great Affection” as they, as disciples, learn from us about Christ - by Word and action - and trust and follow Him. What’s this have to do with apologetics? Everything, actually. If we believe our aim is to simply discuss or debate some information about God and/or His Creation, then here is the Word that says otherwise. Our reason for apologetics MUST BE about RESTORATION of the sinner to God in Christ… beloved IT’S ABOUT THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST! The first aim of every engagement with people - its underlying motivation - is to restore people to fellowship with their Maker through belief in His Son Jesus Christ which is professed outwardly through baptism. We are building a Kingdom in Christ in a fallen world, after all, not creating talking points that merely puff-up the intelligent and inspire the rebellious.
