Chapter Twelve

Pandora opened her eyes, and bit by bit the world slowly returned to focus. Her cheek was pressed against a smooth chest. A heartbeat thudded steadily in her ear. Her fingers rested peacefully over the ridges of a defined abdomen. An arm was wrapped around her back, palm balanced on the apex of her hip bone.

Oh, and she was naked.

And he was naked.

And when she blinked one more time, it all became crystal clear.

Jax.

And his musician’s hands.

And his singer’s lips.

And his—

Holy crap, we had sex.

Pandora jerked her head up as she searched the room, looking for the damage she already knew had been done, evidence that was even more damning in the clear light of day—made brighter by the fact that the curtain rod was hanging diagonally off kilter. There was a gaping hole in the wall where it had once been secured.

My hand. His tongue.

I pulled.

She winced, head swiveling to the opposite wall, where there was a crack in the plaster from her back, then the lamp broken on the floor from his arm, and the feathers all around them from the pillows—but to be fair, they’d both done that.

No wonder her body ached.

About damn time I had some of the good kind of pain.

Pandora closed her eyes, unable to stop the smile that rose to her lips as she shook her head.

Make me forget? What was I thinking?

Well…not a whole lot after that.

Jax stirred beneath her. His fingers tightened, arm pulling her closer instinctually. Pandora used her higher vantage point to watch him blink the sleep away, saltwater eyes growing clearer and clearer by the second.

They jumped to her as the realization struck.

She was worried it’d be awkward.

That it had been a mistake.

That it would change everything.

But the second he turned his gaping face toward her, laughter bubbled in the pit of her stomach, an infectious sort of mirth that traveled up her throat and spilled through her lips before she could contain it. Not a second later, he joined in, a deep, throaty sound to match her airy giggles.

“Ow,” he grumbled, reaching up to grip the top of his skull. “My head…” He trailed off, confused.

Pandora pointed to the window. “Curtain rod.”

“Oh…right.” He coughed, trying to cover up the grin pulling at his cheeks. Then his eyes popped wide. “Your back—”

“Totally fine,” she cut in, wriggling her shoulders, trying to stretch. Then she shrugged. “Eh, it’ll heal, anyway.”

He nodded, letting the motion linger as he continued to look around the room. “That was…”

“Unexpected?” Pandora supplied.

“I was going to say enthusiastic.”

Pandora lifted a wry brow in his direction.

“What?” He paused, holding her gaze as his lips finally widened with all the self-satisfied bliss he’d been trying to hide. “I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. I’m just too damn irresistible.”

Pandora immediately grabbed the pillow from underneath her head and slammed it into his face. The effect she was hoping for didn’t quite play out—since, well, the pillow was ripped down the middle. A cloud of feathers cascaded into the air, leaving nothing but a soft cotton shell to hit his cheeks.
