Chapter Five
The wedding and reception was taking place a few miles out of town. Travis had rented out an entire resort. Okay, it was a very small resort, but nevertheless.
It’s busy during the summer months when families come up to spend weekends at the large lake the resort juts up against. There’s also hiking trails galore.
The resort switches gears in the winter time and caters to ice skaters, cross country skiers, and snowshoers. The only thing it doesn’t have is a ski hill. But a twenty minute drive down the road, and you’d hit the largest ski resort in the state.
We were lucky to be able to rent the whole thing out for the weekend. I suppose you can really do anything when you have money.
There’s a lovely main lodge that had a huge stone fireplace in the middle. That’s where we’re getting married. Thanks to it being right before Christmas, the lodge is already decorated beautifully with large Christmas trees on either side of the hearth, and garland and lights strung from the wooden beams.
The lodge has an open floorplan. With the exception of the front desk that is tucked away in a corner and the large fireplace, the room is open. Chairs and couches are arranged in small circles around the open space. But with the floor to ceiling windows in the back of the lodge that overlook the frozen lake, it’s the perfect area for the reception.
We don’t need a lot of room, we probably only have about fifty guests coming. So this really is the right place for us.
And there are about twenty cottages spread across the resort, so we don’t need to worry about anyone drinking and driving home. One of the resort workers would shuttle people in golf carts.
Taylor and I arrive at the resort a little after one. We had loaded the flowers in her car and decided to put the arrangements together at the resort. It just seemed like the easiest way.
The reception area was already decorated when we got there. A few circular tables were placed around the room and one large rectangular table sat in front of the wall of windows. Each was decorated with white tableclothes and the mason jars Taylor had worked on the other day. When we arrived with the flowers, they were added to some of the jars and the rest were made into bouquets.
The rehearsal started at five, and Taylor and I had just finished the flower work. I had about an hour to shower the sweat off me and get ready for the night. I decided to walk to the cottage I’d be using for the weekend. Travis would join me tomorrow after the wedding, but tonight it was all mine.
My bag was sitting on the bed when I arrived. My wedding dress hanging in the closet. The resort really was an excellent host.
I grab my dress for tonight, a simple cream colored sleeveless a-line dress that falls just to my knees, and head into the bathroom.
