'I expect the tree frogs have gone,' she said, deliberately avoiding the subject of Ingrid. 'I'm making a list of all the animals I've seen.'

'You are?' His eyes went past her to the place where the tree frogs had been. 'And what have you on this list?'

'Hornbills and a civet cat. Lizards, of course, as they are all over the place. I wish I knew the different kinds.'

'I believe they have about a hundred different kinds in Borneo.'

'So many? I didn't know that.'

'Have you seen the flying lizard yet?'

Faun shook her head.

'Does it really fly? I rather thought it merely glided.'

'As a matter of fact it does glide, on certain membranes.'

Faun nodded, then mentioned the birds' calls she had heard.

'I'm also making a list of the flowers I've come across,' she added.

'And the fruits, of course.'

'Have you discovered the durian yet?'

Faun shook her head.

'I've heard of it, though. It's an acquired taste, I believe?'

'Yes.' He glanced upstream casually. 'If we can find some we'll be able to use them as an alternative to the fruit you used at lunch time today.'
