Chapter Four

I couldn’t get Scott out of my head.

I sat on the bleachers, chatting with the other parents, laughing and smiling as if I weren’t reliving the past twenty-four hours in my head, but I was and my body was on fire. Every time I’d forget for a few moments, I’d shift on the bleachers and the smallest movement would remind me that I’d had some of the best orgasms of my life today and certain body parts were still awash with the afterglow.

“Hey, Dana, did you ever think about online dating?” Chelsea, Katy’s best friend Molly’s mom, asked me.

“Online… dating?” I gulped around the word.

“Yeah, Kevi Marlings met her latest on one of these dating sites. I know a few other couples who hooked up that way.”

“Um, no. Haven’t tried that.” I leaned down to tie my sneaker.

The one that didn’t need tying.

“I wouldn’t go near one of those with a ten foot schlong.” Cathy Templeton had no filter. Never had, and during the neighborhood Friday night happy hours, her vocabulary could get really raunchy.

I loved her for it, though. More than one of my characters had been inspired by something Cathy had said.

However, Cathy would change her mind if she’d ever met Scott.

The thought was unsettling. Obviously Scott was no novice when it came to sexting. No one just chatted up an older woman like he did and was able to go down this path on the first try. He’d honed his skill.

And I was the lucky beneficiary so what was I complaining about?

“You never know who’s on the other end of that connection,” continued Cathy, voicing my own concerns. “Sure, the photo might be good, but there’s no guarantee it’s really that guy. Much better to meet him in person.”

“You mean at a bar?” scoffed my next-door-neighbor, Kim. “Yeah, that’s so much better. You don’t even know if the guy’s giving you his right name.”

“Gee, everyone.” I patted the sneaker and sat up. “You all make it sound like so much fun. Which is why I’m still single.” And it was. I wasn’t into the bar scene. Especially the pick-up part. The thought of getting naked around someone new… This body wasn’t the same as it’d been twenty years ago.

No, much better to pull out my vibrator and masturbate to a computer screen than actually let someone see the stretch marks and muffin top.

Yet another reason to remind myself that, no matter how tempted I was, meeting Scott was definitely out of the picture.

“At the very least, you could use the experience for book fodder.” Cathy snuck a sip of the beer she’d packed in her youngest’s insulated lunch box.

I rolled my eyes. Inappropriate partying was expected of Cathy; no one would think twice. Now if I were to guzzle booze at a kid’s game, it’d be the scandal of the century.

Imagine what everyone would say if they knew what I’d been doing all day.

“How’s the newest book coming, Dana?” Cathy asked.

Snickers accompanied that question.

I was used to it.
