I used dadoed construction on the box. The dadoes were difficult to cut, especially since the panels were curved, but I came up with an interesting solution. By screwing the panels, outside faces together, I was able to pull the curves out and flatten the panels enough to cut the dadoes on the table saw. A radial-arm saw would definitely be the tool of choice for this job, or possibly a dado plane—but I had neither. After the da-does were cut, I removed the screws. This left little holes that were easily filled and painted over.
