That versatile elbow of yours is also a potent weapon if you get attacked from behind. If you get grabbed from the back, tuck in your chin to prevent your attacker from choking you, bring your shoulder up to give your elbow the freedom to move, turn your hip, pivot with your outside foot (remember the technique for the hammer fist punch), use the foot on the inside to generate your power to swing that elbow to incapacitate your attacker. Bring that elbow down and back in a vertical plane to slam into the sternum or stomach of your attacker to get free. If the attacker is a lot taller than you, then you can always try and pull him down by the wrist and swing your elbow upwards to connect with his throat.
