It took all of Bree’s self-restraint not to check her messages from Jake constantly after their first date. For the rest of the week, her thoughts were consumed by him. She replayed their afternoon together in her head numerous times, still baffled by their chemistry. She’d never come so close to fucking on a first date or even been comfortable enough to do so, much less with someone who’d stood her up the day before.

“I’ve never seen you like this,” Michelle confirmed one evening, barely able to contain her glee.

“Yeah, yeah. You were right about giving him another shot. Missing out on him would have definitely been a mistake.”

There was just something about Jake. He was nice. He was considerate and polite. He definitely wasn’t bad to look at. Their conversation had flowed easily during their dinner the other night too, just like it did in their messages. Jake had made delicious steaks with a side of potatoes and salad effortlessly. Cooking was a skill many men in her past had lacked, but Jake’s chops in the kitchen were almost as good as in the bedroom.

Bree felt like an infatuated teenager.

During the workday, he’d randomly pop into her brain. At night, she masturbated to the thought of them together.

Hell, she was crushing on Jake so hard that she even read all of the articles she could find about him online, looking for something to nitpick at. But all Bree uncovered was that Jake had saved a total of ten people from various fires over the years.

He was an actual hero.

Bree: So, what’s wrong with you, anyway? Are you a psychopath? Sex addict? Serial killer? I’d rather know now.

She’d sent over the somewhat serious text after spending the last half hour stalking his social media with her roommate.

Jake: You really want to know? Can you handle it?

Bree was intrigued.

Bree: Obviously, yes.

Jake: Well, come by the station tomorrow night at eight. Maybe I’ll show you then ;)

Bree: Sounds good.

They went on to talk about their day, but Bree’s stomach fluttered in excitement.

Maybe she’d finally get to have her fireman.
