I had no excuse to be sitting on the bus bench outside Cortez‘s apartment, waiting for him to come back from his run, except that I was now a stage five professional creeper. At a quarter to seven in the morning, the only reason I could have for being here was to catch a glimpse of him and hope that he would invite me inside. He made his way down the sidewalk, sneakers slapping the pavement as he gracefully dodged early morning pedestrians, and I had to admire the sight he made in thin gray sweatpants and a black compression shirt. His dick print swung left and right, so no jock or compression briefs underneath, and his tight pierced nipples poked through the thin Lycra of his shirt. Dark patches of sweat stained his under arms and neckline.

I guess I did have a reason for being here. I could offer to lick him clean, so he didn’t need to waste water in the shower.

It seemed I wasn’t the only one who thought he looked tasty. His ever-present shaggy shadow was hot on his heels.

Cortez spotted me as he jogged past. I was taking his silence as a silent invitation, whether or not it was meant to be one. Quickly, I followed the pair of them to the elevator, stepping inside just before the doors closed on me.

“Is this going to be a habit of yours every morning?”

His skin glistened with sweat. With him standing so close to me, it was difficult not to reach out and touch him.

“Would you like it to be?”

My blatant eye-fucking didn’t go unnoticed. Cortez smirked, shaking his head.

The doors opened, depositing us right in front of his loft. “You, stay put. I’ll be right back,” he said to the dog.

“Why don’t you just invite him inside?”

“I don’t collect strays,” he said with disdain. I caught the double meaning.

If there was one thing I knew about Cortez for certain, it was that he liked to put up a good front to cover his feelings. Especially when those feelings made him vulnerable. It was clear he wanted to keep the stray. It was also clear he didn’t want me to give up on him. Otherwise, he would have kicked my ass to the curb long ago.

“Since I’m here, we might as well have that talk.”

“Sorry, I’ve got to shower and get to work.”

He didn’t sound sorry at all as he shouldered past me, stripping as he went and leaving a trail of clothes in his wake. His pants were the last thing to go, and I was proven right—he wasn’t wearing a damn thing beneath them.

Goddamn, he had a perfect ass.

Left alone in the kitchen, I debated joining him in the shower when my phone rang.

“Hey Lex, this is early, even for you.”

I held the phone between my shoulder and ear as I filled a bowl of water for the dog, cracking the door open just enough to slip it outside without letting him in.

“Just thought I’d check in before I headed out to the office.
