Chapter Twenty-Two
Gio was dressed and on his second espresso by the time she wandered into the kitchen, wrapped in the robe he had left for her. Despite the night before, he expected their dance to start again. How long would it be before she pushed him into the ring for round two? The question made him hard, and he shifted on the barstool. âCoffee?â he offered, standing in order to get more comfortable.
âWhere are you hiding her?â When Giovanni glanced back while approaching the espresso machine and starting another shot, Alessandra grinned and waved her hand at him. âWhoever it is that makes you look like youâre ready to walk the runway every day. Does she give your hair that just-fucked-and-I-donât-care-if-you-know-Iâm-sexy look, too? The whole I-know-how-to-shave-but-like-to-keep-this-five-oâclock-shadow-all-day-long-to-drive-the-girls-crazy thing youâve got going on?â She exaggerated looking around. âWhere is she? Where do you hide her?â
Giovanni laughed and started steaming milk. On the counter behind her, he saw the box of the bracelet that he had brought with him to Fridayâs Gala. While watching her sleep, he had decided that not only would he give her the bracelet, but he would lock it in place, too. After last night, there was no doubt in his mind that Alessandra was his. She knew it, too. It was just not in her nature to give into him, but Giovanni could read her better than she read the books she spent her days with.
âShe,â he said with a chuckle, âis my sister. Theresa owns a few different clothing stores and is starting her own line after this baby is born- or thatâs her plan. To get her off my back, I let her completely overhaul my closet a few years ago. Sheâs got a good eye. I canât complain.â As he continued to make Alessandraâs cappuccino, he nodded to imply the bedroom downstairs. âIâm sure youâve noticed the clothes in the closet. I ordered them from her. She can handle anything else youâd like.â
âI have clothes.â
âWe can agree to disagree.â He smirked at her eye roll and offered her the cup, which she thanked him for. âWhat would you like for breakfast?â He had already set an order in motion and only needed to call the front desk to have them complete it.
âI donât eat breakfast.â
âWe can order in from the French bakery two blocks away or, if you would like to go out, can walk down once youâre dressed.â
She took a drink of her coffee, using her tongue to wipe the foam from her lips. âDid I stutter, Gio? Struggling with your English again?â The laughter in her voice begged for a response. âNo, non faccio colazione,â she said slowly, enunciating each word of her I donât eat breakfast bullshit.
It was more fun to fuck with her without even touching her, he decided. âBuongiorno, Caleb,â Gio said after picking up the house phone. âThe order I gave you this morning?â
âPut that in place, sir?â
âYes, thank you.â He hung up the phone while watching the darkness that passed over her face when Alessandra realized she had already been outplayed.
