“I’m going to fig dure this out, David. With or without your help. Now, let’s consider Temple’s murder. What was the motive?”

“Sex or money,” David said.

“What do you think about sex, Amanda?”

Ignoring his innuendo, she said.

“I think Temple was killed so he wouldn’t give information to the police.”

“Sounds reasonable.”

“What information did Temple have? Who could he hurt?”

“The other two bank robbers?” David guessed.

“But one of them, Sarge, is already in custody. The other, Dallas, is the subject of a manhunt. How could he hurt them?”

“By testifying against them. Or he could give away the hideout location of the guy who grabbed your friend Carrie.”

“True.”

She mulled over a wider range of possibilities. There was a question in her mind about the computer codes to turn off video surveillance at the bank. Not to mention the escape of a federal prisoner, which took place at the same time as the robbery. There was Carrie’s possible involvement to consider.

“How could Temple be murdered in the hospital?” she questioned. Though security at Denver General wasn’t topnotch, the murder of a guarded prisoner seemed impossible.

“Do you think his police guard was bribed to look the other way? What if the police are involved?”

“It would explain a few things,” he said.

“Like the sloppy hostage negotiations. And the pathetic inability to nab this Dallas character.”

“This might be a conspiracy, David.”

“And who’s behind it?”

“Jax Schaffer,” she said.
