Eating Out George’s Hot Dogs (716-648-0302), 5808 Herman Hill Road (Route 77) North Boston. Cash only. Open early April–mid-October 11 AM–8 PM. A seasonal, family-friendly restaurant that has been in business since 1967. They serve burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes, and more. They have two outdoor playgrounds.
Nick Charlap’s (716-312-0592), 7264 Boston State Road, North Boston. Hours vary seasonally. People come from miles around for Charlap’s ice cream, which was started by Henry Charlap in 1961 and is now operated by his son, Nick. Charlap’s has the feel of an old-fashioned ’50s ice cream parlor, complete with a jukebox. On an average summer day they sell over a thousand cones, along with other goodies like shakes and banana splits, as well as hot dogs and hamburgers. You can also purchase ice cream in containers to take home.
