Seeing these differences instantly empowers a difference in your acceptance between the two and possibly helps you become more excited about your future failures.
Your responsibility at this point of your journey is to fail fast, fail often, and where possible, fail forward. Once failure becomes something you embrace and don't allow to entangle you, then your progress starts to speed up. The failures create knowledge, the knowledge empowers decisions, the decisions create actions, and the actions create progress.
It would be a huge disappointment to your future self if your BIG idea remained just that. The action steps required to get from where you are now to accomplishing what you want can certainly feel overwhelming, and a trusted way to reduce your anxiety is to stop running a giant “to-do” list and replace your plan with some clearly marked checkpoints.
When you focus on what you need to do, you create dozens of tasks that have right and wrong ways of doing each of them, and “perfection paralysis” can sabotage your success.
The alternative means that you take control of what you need to have done and by when. These nonnegotiable checkpoints create the freedom for failure to thrive and progress to prosper. It becomes less about “how” you do something and shifts the emphasis to the desired outcome. Think for a second about the abundance of outcomes that you rely on and for which you have zero knowledge or interest about how those outcomes are achieved.
Examples for me include:
I need to arrive in Atlanta safely before 10 a.m. tomorrow.
We have 60 people in a workshop on Friday, and they all will need lunch.
This book manuscript needs to be submitted by the end of the month.
