The increase in so many of his menu items made him grin widely, but one caught his attention. He’d gained another five points to his mana capacity and since his Intelligence hadn’t increased, it had to be because of leveling his air path, as he’d suspected earlier. It made sense as he’d sensed his core growing with each new element he’d explored. And with his support-level mana total, he could use as much as he could get. Doing the math made him grin. Once he leveled all four paths, he’d have a bonus twenty mana.

“It’s a good thing hungry fighters won’t examine those sandwiches too closely.” Mistress Nymeli’s acerbic tone jerked Pax from his internal analysis.

He flushed when he looked down and saw how crookedly he’d been cutting the rolls.

“No matter. You’re not the worst help we’ve had lately.” She waved a dismissive hand. “All hands on deck doesn’t require skilled hands.”

“Food doesn’t have to look pretty to be filling,” Rin countered with a sharp look. “And free help is free.”

Mistress Nymeli frowned for a moment before letting out a sigh and shaking her head. “You’re right. I apologize for snapping at you. Thank you for your help.”

Rin relaxed and tipped her head in acknowledgement.

Mistress Nymeli shook her head. “It’s a crazy time and those in charge are . . . how would you say it? Arrogant, demanding flicks. It’s just too bad I can’t tell them that to their faces without causing more conflict. Still, it’s no excuse for taking it out on you. Now, what can I help you with?”

Rin spoke up, and Pax was more than happy to let her take the lead. Maybe it was his newly leveled Charisma, but now he could see the mistress seemed to have a soft spot for Rin and her crafty negotiating skills. Rin asked for a bonus on the exterminator assignment before they went back and forth over the new vermin parts coming in from the trap. It didn’t take long before a notification blinked in the bottom of his vision.
