Rhea wasn’t sure how to feel about the lady who’d just delivered the pizza. On the one hand, he wished she hadn’t interrupted him and Quillan right when they’d been about to share their first kiss. On the other hand, he was glad.

He liked Quillan. He more than liked him, actually, and he wasn’t quite sure what to do about it. He hadn’t been lying when he’d told Quillan that he didn’t often have boyfriends. He had even fewer of them than he had friends, and that was saying something. He wasn’t sure why that was, and at the moment, it wasn’t important. It didn’t matter. Quillan was his soulmate, and Rhea wasn’t going to let that chance slip between his fingers.

He knew that to have a future with Quillan, he needed to be alive by the end of the day. Alive, and possibly safe and in one piece. That would only happen if he stayed right where he was, and that was why he had no intention of leaving the building. He couldn’t help but feel like it was a bit like being locked in a gilded cage, but his feelings didn’t matter. Both his father and Quillan needed him safe, and so did he.

He didn’t like how trapped he felt, though. He wanted to spend time with Quillan, but he didn’t want to do it because he was forced to. The same went for Quillan. He probably had work to do, places to be, people to talk to. Instead of doing all that, he was stuck babysitting Rhea. He didn’t look like he minded, but Rhea couldn’t tell if that was just show or if it was how he felt. He wanted to believe that Quillan was as happy as he was to spend time together, but since he wasn’t happy himself, he was torn over it.

“You can have something else,” Quillan pointed out.

Rhea blinked and looked down at the plate in front of him. Quillan had found plates somewhere in the suite, and he’d set out the pizza on them. It was sweet and unnecessary. No matter how much money Rhea’s father had, they still ate pizza with their hands. But Quillan seemed to like taking care of Rhea, and Rhea wasn’t going to protest. He couldn’t remember the last time someone had taken care of him like this. His mother had, of course, and so had his father, although, for the past two years, his dad had focused on his work.

Rhea didn’t mind. He was an adult, and he could take care of himself. It was nice to have someone else do it for him, though. He didn’t know if it was because he liked Quillan or because they were soulmates, and he wasn’t sure it mattered. The two things weren’t opposite, just like they weren’t the same.
