The woman came rushing back inside, but this time someone else came rushing in behind her.

Bill Hunter stood over Einstein and leered at him.

‘Well, well, well, what have we here?’ he said. ‘A runaway penguin? Or should I say a flyaway penguin?’

He paused to laugh at his own joke, then bent down to pull Einstein back on his feet.

‘We can’t have runaway penguins, I’m afraid. But there’s nothing to fret about, Einstein. I think you’ll find we’re going to become friends.’

In the corner the woman was starting to tidy up the boxes, pushing them away from the window – much further away than they’d been before, too far away for Einstein to try again. He watched her anxiously.

‘Besides,’ Bill Hunter went on, ‘we can’t have you escaping and wandering the streets alone. There are bad people out there. You might get kidnapped!’

Isaac took a few steps forward and gave an angry squawk.

‘Enough of that,’ Bill Hunter snapped back. ‘I’m not sure I like the one with the yellow eyebrows,’ he remarked to the woman. Then, ‘Ow!’ he cried.

Einstein had bitten him on the hand again, leaving a nasty red mark across his fingers.
