JEWELRY
Jewelry isnât just for special events and dressing up. Many of us have lovely jewelry but we get lazy and donât put it on. Donât underestimate its power to add just the right finishing touch to your outfit. Jewelry is one of the most personal and expressive fashion statements we can make. It shows off your personality through the kind of materials and design you choose: romantic, vintage, traditional, or modern. Select jewelry that completes your outfit and enhances the overall effect you are aiming for; donât be overly concerned if it is costume or real.
You may also use jewelry to express your personal style in the work environment, but be sure to avoid dangling bracelets or too many of them that may get in that way of your work or annoy others. Choose items such as watches, earrings, or a necklace that show off your style and fit in the office environment.
The following are some important tips for selecting and wearing jewelry:
Select costume jewelry that you love and that will stand out.
Select at least one pair of earrings that can be worn well with everything, and make them a staple of your wardrobe.
Take good care of your jewelry: real jewelry should be regularly and properly cleaned.
Let jewelry reflect the outfit you are wearing and the mood you are in. For example, a vintage brooch reflects a romantic, artsy mood and an antique necklace may reflect a more old-time conservative flair. Modern jewelry may reflect a cutting-edge mood.
A necklace should complement the neckline and the style of the blouse being worn. A V-neck style blouse, for instance, can really show off a long necklace.
Choose jewelry that shows off your best assets. A long, graceful neck looks great with a choker; women with shorter necks do better with a longer necklace that focuses attention on the bustline. You may also want to match a choker with a long necklace for a more interesting look.
As with sunglasses, select earrings that are opposite the shape of the face. For example, women with round faces should avoid big round earrings and wear dangling earrings to elongate the face. Women with rectangular faces look well with hoop earrings but should avoid square or angled earrings.
Coordinate or mix metals â gold with gold or silver. Also mix with pearls. When mixing metals, try to match the tone and shine of pieces. This will maintain the overall look of the outfit.
Combine a brooch or pins with denim to add style and flair to a casual look.
Invest in gold and/or silver hoop earrings, a watch, and bangle bracelets as wardrobe must-haves. If you feel hoop earrings do not look good on you, buy dangling earrings. As noted above, earrings can do a lot to accentuate your facial features. Choose a style that is right for you: chandelier earrings look great on most faces regardless of shape. They draw attention to the face and upper body and are even more flattering if the colors selected highlight your facial features.
