The Buddha represents the Eye of the World, noted for his wisdom and compassion. Siddhartha Gautama, the charismatic teacher who in the fifth century BC in Nepal eventually became the Buddha, or the “Awakened One,” emphasized during his lifetime the need to test one’s ideas and views and not to blindly accept other’s rules and guidelines. Siddhartha Gautama promoted the quality of mindfulness—awareness without judgment. No actual images of Siddhartha Gautama exist, but later imagined images of the Buddha’s face often show a dot between the brows representing the third eye.
