CHAPTER 10

Ozzy sat in the SUV with Pit and Taj as their maharishi flew above them. He wasn’t all that comfortable leaving Boomer behind… not because he was having issues with his gift, but more because his heart seemed to be hurting without the man by his side. Odd, since they had known each other only a couple of days.

“How are you feeling?” Taj asked.

Pit added, “Any thoughts, feelings, or visions coming through?”

Ozzy answered, “I can sense an anxiousness, but I think it’s more from Spesh than it is from you two.”

Spesh peeked out of Ozzy’s sleeve. “Sorry. I just don’t want you to get overwhelmed and not have Boomer or me with you to help.”

There was no way to deny the softening of his heart Ozzy felt towards this dragon. He had been nothing but sweet and nurturing since the moment they’d met. For him to be worried about Ozzy’s welfare when this was something Ozzy had lived with every day was so caring, and even loving.

Gently petting the top of Spesh’s head, Ozzy softly said in the most reassuring way he could, “I’m going to be okay, Spesh. This is something I’ve lived with for practically my whole life. Besides, it won’t take long before we have our answers.”

“Yes, but I…” Spesh stopped speaking and shook his head.

“What?” Ozzy asked, but when the maharishi still said nothing, Ozzy said, “Please, Spesh, just say what you wanted to say.”

Shaking his head, Spesh said, “I promised Boomer, I wouldn’t push you, or try and pressure you in any way. What I was going to say may do that, and I don’t want to make you feel obligated, or guilted into anything.”

“I know what’s expected from me, Spesh. I also know that neither you nor Boomer are trying to force my hand. Just say what you were going to say,” Ozzy insisted.

It took Spesh a moment, but he finally said, “I’m more worried about what’s going to happen to you when this is over, and you’ve decided to go back to your home. Yes, it hurts my heart just thinking about it, but more so, I hurt thinking about the loneliness and suffering you will continue to live with. Maybe…” Spesh stopped for only a second, before continuing, “Maybe, even if you don’t choose to be with Boomer and me, you might consider staying in Drago, if it helps you live a more… involved life.”

Ozzy was taken aback by Spesh’s suggestion and didn’t know what to say. Thankfully, Pit interrupted their discussion, when he said, “We’re getting ready to exit off of Drago land in just a minute. Spesh, stay attached until I tell you to go back.”

Spesh didn’t say anything to Pit, and apparently Pit didn’t expect him to, because nothing else was said.

Pit hadn’t been kidding. Ozzy felt that pop like he did every time he entered or left Drago territory. The moment the pop happened, Ozzy braced himself and was pleasantly surprised when, although he felt things, he had to concentrate in order to wade through what he was looking for.
