‘Stay still!’

Ace looked up the slope again. The first Cheetah was starting to descend slowly. Its eyes blazed at her out of the dark fur on its face. She thought it was smiling at her. She looked down. Half crouching, more Cheetahs were creeping up the slope towards them.

Paterson looked wildly from side to side. ‘I’m not putting up with this,’ he muttered. He was breathing fast; his eyes bulged. Panic trembled in his voice. ‘I’m not just going to stand here and get eaten alive!’ With a sudden lunge he grabbed the rock from Ace and hurled it at the nearest Cheetah.
