Chapter Thirty-four

“Miss O’Reilly,” the mayor called as Mary walked out of Bradley’s office.

“Mayor,” Mary replied, paused and nodded professionally.

He could see that she was a little upset. Good, he wanted her distracted. He walked over to her and smiled. “I just wanted to be sure you were okay after your ordeal,” he said solicitously.

She smiled back. “Thank you for your concern,” she replied. “I’m fine.”

“You seem agitated,” he replied, reaching over and placing his hand on her arm for just a moment. It took only a moment for the small GPS tracker concealed in his hand to drop into the open pocket of her purse.

She shook her head. “No, I’m not agitated, just busy,” she replied, unaware of the tracking device. “The press conference and my meeting with the chief have taken more time than I had anticipated. So, if you don’t mind, I really do need to get back to work.”

He stepped back and smiled widely. “No, of course not; I’m sorry for delaying you. I hope you have a very productive rest of your day.”

She smiled and nodded. “You too,” she said, moving past him to the staircase.

He waited until she was too far away to hear him when he replied, “Oh, I have a feeling that I will.”
