In the end, the jury went against Lulu Kennedy and convicted her of murder. She was sentenced to ten years in prison. That sentence was later overturned when the Court of Appeals decided that the prosecution had besmirched Lulu’s character by entering evidence regarding her affair with Case Patten. That meant a retrial and the second time around it went much better for Lulu. She was acquitted on the grounds of “emotional insanity.” The jurors also agreed that she had since recovered, and it was therefore not necessary for her to be institutionalized.
