Scarlett

I rage.

Staring without any restraint the brunette who’s rubbing herself against Nolan like a bitch in heat. Hands on his neck, she’s placed her back so her ass wiggles against him. I want to throw up, pull her by the hair and push Nolan off the damn dance floor.

He never dances.

It has to be tonight that he put his booty call under my nose. He’s single, he was very happy to remind me. As much as his monumental forgetfulness of what we exchanged on the couch.

Damn it.

But he can’t have forgotten. Not after asking me that exact same question, the one before our kiss. So why say he doesn’t remember kissing me? For touching me like I was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. I can still hear his breath in my ear, the tingling in my chest, on my skin, the fire between my legs. I can still feel the bump between his thighs that he pushed against my ass.

He still hasn’t really forgotten everything, has he?

Tonight, he kills me a little more by engaging with her. A complete stranger who hasn’t stopped staring at him since I arrived. How do I know? Because I couldn’t take my eyes off him from the second he walked into that nightclub. From his khaki jeans—number one on the list of pants that make Nolan Jones a hell of an ass—and his white T-shirt slightly rolled up on his biceps. His skin looks even more tanned, his arms more muscular, his torso harder. As soon as I saw him go to the bar, I couldn’t help but follow him.

Crappy idea? Completely. Especially when I think that despite all these years, I still can’t get used to it. All these girls who eat out of his hand, who want to share a moment with him. I never noticed if it’s like that with all hockey players. If my brother also has his harem. When it comes to Nolan, it’s obvious to me every time. It’s even worse since the news that he’s single has spread across the campus like a wildfire.

It’s only been two days, damn it!

“Breathe!”

Paige’s warm fingers grip my wrist. I look at her, realizing I’m holding my breath and digging my fingernails into my palms.

“I hate him!” I say.

“I know. He’s a jerk.”

“Stop focusing on him tonight,” Carol blurts out as her date is dancing right behind her. “He’s not worth it.”

We officially met Mitch, her medical student she met on an app. As soon as he opened his mouth to tell us a bunch of hilarious anecdotes, I knew he was just perfect for Carol. Funny, full of life, confident, and really caring. I also believe that he paid for the first two rounds and didn’t let go of his date. He could have been flirting, gravitated around the girls present this evening, but he didn’t. And that makes me really happy for her.

“I can’t help it!”

“You know what?” Mitch adds, leaning in my direction. “You should make him jealous.
