I scanned an end page from an old book, because I felt the texture and colour would work well as a background for this vintage-inspired illustration. Open the scanned paper in Photoshop, go to Select > All, and copy and paste it into a new layer in your scanned drawing document, ensuring this layer is dragged to the bottom of the document’s Layers palette. Go to Image > Transform > Scale to resize the paper to fit inside the canvas area.
