Oh shit!
âDonât these bastards ever give up?â I shouted at Nik, as the next group of Dracul vampires advanced on us. I was exhausted. My body was covered in wounds. I had nothing left to give and now I had to take on an army. But just as my shoulders sagged in defeat, the rest of the Ahimsas started emerging from within the building. They were all armed. Some held makeshift stakes, others held silver chains in gloved hands, a few even had guns.
My gaze went straight to Lance and Viv, at the front of the group. Gratitude filled my heart. They couldâve ran to the next hideout, made their getaway as I knew they usually did in such circumstances. But instead theyâd come to help us and not just Lance and Viv but all the Ahimsas. This was what a family should be like. Always there for each other, always protecting each other.
I didnât have time to give it anymore thought as the first Dracul reached me. He formed a fist and brought it towards my face, with full force. Years of fight training reflexes kicked in and I dodged it, swerving to the side as I delivered a swift chop to the side of his torso. The soft spot where his kidneys shouldâve been, instead felt like pure rock and I winced in pain as the shock reverberated through my wrist and up my forearm.
Another vampire jumped on my back from behind. She put something around my neck and I gagged and cried out as I staggered around, trying to shake her off. Was she going to strangle me to death? But instead I felt a click and a feeling of cold, rough, thin metal. I elbowed her sharply in the ribs but she barely reacted. She was way stronger than me and for the first time genuine fear twisted my guts.
âGet off me.â I screamed as she bared her fangs at my jugular. She was just about to sink them into my flesh when another vampire shouted.
âWhat are you doing, you idiot? Hugh wants her alive and untouched.â
The vampire swore under her breath and jumped off, catching hold of my hair in one hand as she threw me towards the ground. Pain blossomed across my lips as they made contact with the hard tarmac.
The female vampire spat at me. âNot so tough now, without your arcane powers, are you. Bitch!â
What did she mean? I was still an arcane witch - wasnât I? That was the problem. I didnât really know how or why my powers worked. I had sort of twigged that they were linked to the lights that Iâd always seen. But I couldnât yet summon the lights on command and they seemed to randomly fuck off just when I needed them the mostâ¦. Like now for example.
Not willing to give up, I scrambled to my feet. I may not be able to control my powers yet but I could still fight like a gladiator. Assuming
