CHAPTER EIGHT

The last thing he wanted to do was relive his night with the cursed beast. The dragon had been restless last night, no doubt because he himself was disturbed. He had two days before the two hundredth anniversary of his curse. Then she would be gone from his life because he would let her go. She was different from the others. Her kindness as well as her need to please had cracked through his defenses. Having made the decision to let her go warred with his need to keep her with him, causing a pain in his chest. But he wouldn’t allow her light to be snuffed out by this damned curse he’d brought upon himself. He’d come to care too much to let anything happen to her gentle spirit. The world needed the light she carried.

He ran a finger over her bottom lip then cupped her cheek, needing to take the hurt from her eyes. "I didn’t mean to be so sharp in my response. The telling is long, and I am weary."

What he wanted was out of his reach. As his gaze fell to her neckline and the smooth, rounded, curves of her breasts, he spotted her hard nipples pebbled beneath the dress he had given her. He swallowed hard.

"I have distressed you. That was not my wish, Master." Her cool fingers ran over his, holding his hand to her cheek. "Shall I leave and go to my room so you may rest?"

"By the rod, woman. Can you not see? You are beautiful and nearly sitting on my lap and I am a man who has gone without a woman’s comfort for years."

He grabbed her about the waist and pulled her onto his lap. Her soft ass pressed against his hard length. She inhaled sharply at first but gave him no resistance. Drawing her tight against his chest, he sighed.

"I am a man who’s been alone a long time, Lilya. I want you, but I dare not sample the forbidden."

She hadn’t struggled or slapped him for his forward behavior but settled into his chest. Her gaze had heated with desire, and his gut twisted. Would she let him kissed her again? He wanted the taste of her on his tongue.

A smile curved her lips, and her gaze dropped to his chest before sliding back up.

"You warm my heart, Daine. The fire in you pleases me. If I can bring ease to you in anyway, I would."

Her heart-warming words drove him over the edge of his control. He slid a hand behind her neck and fisted it in her long hair, slowly tugging her head back so his lips could take hers, giving her every chance to refuse if she wished. They were soft and warm under his, the sweetest fruit he’d ever tasted. He tenderly nuzzled her lips while his other hand rose up along her side to cup her breast. His fingers never touched her nipple but stroked the underside of the rounded globe. Lilya moaned and edged closer into his embrace.
