Chapter Twenty
Lucien
The black darkness of satisfaction fell over us like a veil between the worlds, and for once, I took the opportunity to relish it. Usually, with mortals, once I had taken what I wanted, I cast them out and disposed of their exhausted bodies, resenting the way they wanted to cling and looked for affirmation.
Their feelings exhausted me and left me cold.
With Penny, it was different.
She didnât turn and seek affection as our bodies separated. In fact, she barely moved at all. There was the faintest mewl as I withdrew, a response to the loss, and then she relaxed on her belly, face buried into the bedding between her splayed arms.
I rolled away, stretching my human guise before I shifted to watch her. It had been five minutes, and still, she hadnât moved, except the sounds of her breathy little pants, which were calming. Slowly, as though she sensed my piercing gaze, she glanced in my direction.
âI promised you another orgasm.â
Her lips twitched. âI donât think Iâll survive another of your orgasms, Master.â
âOh, you will survive,â I assured her with a chuckle and unthinkingly, my hand hovered over her, easing her silky tresses from her face. She seemed so content, satiated by the carnality, and at ease. âYou have books to write, remember?â
Her body tensed at the memory, wide blue eyes flitting to my gaze. âDo I have to go back there now?â
âWell, you have had your reward.â I leaned closer, running my palm down the length of her flawless skin. She winced as it grazed over her punished ass, so I paused and squeezed the orb between my fingers.
âYes, I just thoughtâ¦â Her voice trailed away as her eyes lowered to the bedding.
âYou thought what?â I rose on one elbow, towering over her even now we were sprawled out on the bed. âThat it would all be over? That you would write for one day, open your legs, and we would be done?â
Her gaze met mine in an instant, hurt flashing in her eyes before they narrowed with indignation. âWhat then?â She was up on her knees, panting as the fury simmered inside her. âYouâre just going to keep me chained between that dark, shitty place and whatever awaits me here?â Her gaze traveled around the bedroom, her thoughts confirming she was really concerned about the basement and all the depravity we were yet to discover there.
âFor now,â I confirmed, rolling onto my back and locking my hands behind my head. âWhy not? You did so well today, Penny, almost like you were a writer again.â
She pulled in a shaky breath, climbing from the bed as she regarded me. âI wonât have it.â There was determination in her tone, but it was accompanied by a tremble of uncertainty. Penny was no fool. She knew she was out of her depth and powerless to prevent my perverted plans.
âYou wonât, huh?â
I cocked an eyebrow at her, smiling at the way she tucked the loose strands of her hair behind her ears.
