Mickee

I wake up and notice that I am alone. I don’t hear Elleigh moving around and I instantly become worried. I leap out of bed and am headed to her room to knock down the door to check on her when I hear rustling downstairs. I creep down the stairs and finally hear that rich voice I’d been hoping for. “No. I’m fine Sam. Don’t worry about me. It’s been a crazy few days. I don’t even know where to begin.” Sam must have been talking on the other end because she has stopped talking as I round the corner to the kitchen. I lean against the doorframe and watch her as she moves about the kitchen with her phone caught between her ear and her shoulder. She is wearing her night shirt and it barely covers her ass. Her raven colored hair is piled into a messy ball on top of her head. She is turning toward me and says, “Sam. Seriously. I’m not into any shady business don’t… Sonuvabitch! How the fuck can you be so big and move so quietly?” Pushing off the wall headed for the coffee pot, I ask, “Is that a fat joke?” She glares at me and says, “Not everyone has had the training you have had. I’m going to put a bell on you like a damn cat. Sorry. No Sam. Everything is fine. It’s part of what is so hard to explain. Mickee, maybe you can help me here?” She takes her phone, places it on speaker and lays it on the counter. “Hello. My name is Mickee and you must be Sam.” I hear a grunt in agreement and continue. “You know Elleigh’s special trait? It’s actually a mutation of a hereditary gene that has been passed down through her entire lineage. Her family has been the leaders of a community of people similar to Elleigh called Cristondia since the beginning of this community’s time. Elleigh is the last living Sardona and now she is the ruler of said community. We call her Sovereign, but it pisses her off.” I stop and look at Elleigh. “Did I cover it all?” She nods and speaks to Sam. “Did you get all of that?” she asks. “So you are like a queen over a group of people who cross over ghosts?” Sam asks. Elleigh says, “No” while I say, “Basically.” Elleigh glares at me again and speaks to Sam, “Not a queen, just a leader but otherwise, yeah that’s basically it.” We are met with silence. Finally Sam says, “Ok. You officially have a better time at home than I have ever had traveling.” Elleigh laughs and Sam asks, “When can we get together? I’m dying to hear more details.” Elleigh thinks for a minute and looks at me. I shrug my shoulders and say, “We can do whatever you please, Sovereign.” She rolls her eyes and says, “We can meet up today. Actually, pack a bag and you can come stay with us if that’s ok, Mickee.
