Flanders County is located in an area of 120 square miles and has a population of 300,000. The county seat is located in the city of Flanders, which is the only city in the county and has a population of 100,000. The district attorney’s office occupies the entire third floor of the county office building.

The general objective of the Flanders County District Attorney’s Office is to prosecute all criminal matters in the county. This objective is achieved by

1.

bringing all criminal matters to trial in the proper court;

2.

reviewing felony arrests through the grand jury process and securing indictments against suspected persons deemed likely to have committed offenses;

3.

initiating criminal investigations through the grand jury process;

4.

extraditing criminals who committed crimes in Flanders County and fled to another county, state, or country; and

5.

applying and executing electronic surveillance devices for criminal investigations with the cooperation of county police agencies.
