Chapter 13

“I’ll see you tomorrow. We’ll go have brunch in Greenville, okay? All of us.” Logic wasn’t giving up his evening, dammit. Jericho was childless—childfree? whatever—and he was going to take advantage of it.

Sex? Sure. But he wanted to goof off. Play video games. Sit in Jericho’s lap. Tease the son of a bitch by sucking on a beer bottle.

“Sure. The kids and I are having a movie night with pizza.” Bailey sounded pooped, but he knew with just her and her kids, she would get off her feet and get some rest. “I want to go to Rockwall and eat something fancy.”

“Sounds good.” He grabbed his phone charger, a toothbrush, and a clean pair of underwear, and then he headed out to have a slumber party.

He drove the short way to Jericho’s ranch, hoping he’d given Jericho enough time. Jericho had dropped him off to get his stuff and his car, then headed back to finish up what chores they hadn’t managed. That couldn’t be much. Right?

Jericho was in the kitchen, making coffee. Logic could see him through the window, and didn’t that make him smile?

Shit. That man set a little fire in the pit of his belly.

It was probably stupid. At best it was going to be hard on his heart when he left. But right now, Jericho was the most interesting thing that had happened to him in ages.

When he parked, he saw Jericho’s head come up, and that smile was easy to see all the way out here.

He waved and hopped out of the truck, grabbing his bag on the way up to the kitchen door. “Hey, you. I hear you have the night off.”

“I do! You playing hooky from writing?” Jericho teased. They had both been clear that they wanted to spend the night together.

“Totally. I want to goof off, hang out. You know… Netflix and chill?”

Jericho blinked, his cheeks going pink. “You do know what that means, right?”

“Man, we stopped and bought rubbers. I know what it means.” He bumped shoulders with Jericho. “That said, I’m not just here for your fine prick. I want to hang out, beat your ass at Mario Kart, maybe watch a movie first.”

“Yeah?” Jericho grabbed him and kissed his mouth, which made him melt. “I made coffee.”

“I brought clean undies and my toothbrush. You want to start with the games?” He just wanted to be here, with Jericho, spending time.

“I do. I figure we can have some of that ice cream we got at Braum’s in between.” Jericho moved around to pour them both a coffee. “Cream or sugar?”

“A little cream, please. Thanks.” He wrapped one arm around Jericho’s waist. “You looking forward to our evening?”

“I am.” Jericho bumped hips with him gently. “I don’t get much adult time. And I want to be adult with you. Like, get to know you now, not from high school.”

“I was unhappy then, but I got better. I don’t think I could’ve been a good friend in high school, you know?” He was self-aware enough to be able to admit that.
