People often ask me if bar girls earn a lot of money, and my answer is always the same: It depends on the girl. Kirby and Apple are great examples. They were both very popular girls because they were beautiful, outgoing and charming, but they also had a great nose for sniffing out an opportunity and following the money. Thanks to their appearance, their personality and skills that they honed over many years working in the bar scene, they earned a lot of money most months. A lot of people think that bar girls only get a thousand baht for short time and two thousand baht for long time (perhaps those prices are a bit outdated now), but every now and then the girls hit the jackpot and they have a chance to make serious money in a couple of days or even a couple of hours. Not many girls had the nose to sniff out these kinds of opportunities, but Apple certainly did.

Apple was slim, athletic, with short curly hair and beautiful eyes. She was money hungry like no other girl I have ever seen before. A lot of bar girls dream of meeting a guy who will take them out of the bar and bring them back to their country to get married, but that was not Apple’s dream. Her dream was to buy a house and a small store in her village, and her sole purpose for working in the bar was to save money for that dream. She had a target of two million baht, and she was completely focused on reaching that number. Apple had no interest in falling in love, getting married or moving to another country. It was all about the money for Apple, and she was certainly good at making money. One day at about one PM, Apple was sitting at the front of the bar looking up Soi 7. There was nobody in the bar, so me and the girls were just lazing around waiting for the afternoon to pass. But suddenly Apple stood up and ran up the soi. There were three Chinese guy standing in the middle of the road. They had a big DSLR camera on a tripod, and they were taking pictures of themselves outside one of the bars. Apple went up and started talking to them. She managed to convince them to come into our bar.

The three guys were in their forties, they had black hair and they were all quite short; Apple was taller than them. There are a lot of Chinese tourists in Pattaya, but they usually travel together in large tour groups. It was unusual to see three Chinese guys sit down in our bar. They didn’t speak English and nobody in the bar spoke Chinese, but body language prevailed and Apple somehow managed to communicate with them on a very basic level. They agreed to buy Apple a lady drink. Toy, the tomboy bartender, poured Apple her drink. Apple got a bin, placed it in front of them and stuck in the invoice for the drink.
