Back at home, Holly opened up her laptop and started looking for solutions that might help Jess. She typed in, How to help someone who is sad, and skimmed through the articles, bookmarking a few along the way. The next thing did was type, What does it mean when someone feels hopeless, doesn’t have motivation, hates life and work? Multiple results showed up but one term kept popping up—burn out. So, she looked for articles to help someone through a burn out. “It seems like Jess has burned out at work and in life,” she said aloud.

She thought back to the moment in the thrift store today when she saw a glimpse of the Jess she knew and loved. Her lips instinctively curled up into a smile and she felt her clit pulse lightly when she thought about Jess’s head in between her legs. The last time that happened, it definitely ended differently than today, she thought.

Holly tried to shake the memory from her head but she remembered it as clear as day. She thought back to the moment she felt Jess’s tongue on her clit. The soft supple curve of her breast as Jess pressed her body up against hers. Holly closed her eyes and imagined the tender kisses they shared; the feeling of Jess’s wetness slick on her fingertips. She remembered the moans that escaped Jess’s lips, how her body writhed in pleasure.

Holly could feel the moisture start to pool in between her legs as her mind replayed the events that unfolded the night they spent together all those years ago. The truth was, she had never actually had a sexual connection like that with anyone since. Her breath quickened and her chest rose and fell rapidly. She pushed her pelvis down against the soft cushion of her couch and the pressure caused her to throb further.

Holly’s hand instinctively wandered in between her legs; her eyes snapped open as she imagined Jess going down on her. The same Jess that was devastated all those years ago when Holly shut her out. Holly sighed and threw her head into her hands. She felt the same way she did all those years ago; she was terrified of what that night meant. I’m straight, right? she asked herself that night. Why does Jess get my heart racing? Why did I enjoy that night so much? And why am I so scared? What am I scared of? she asked herself all those questions that night and found herself thinking about them once more.

I’m straight. I’m straight. I’m straight, Holly repeated to herself. She lifted her head and stared at the screen of her laptop. She thought of Jess; this time it didn’t scare her. It saddened her. The woman she saw today was defeated and sad. At least she’s in my life today, she thought to herself.

Fourteen years can change a lot but I know our friendship will make it. Maybe she’s a bit jaded but that doesn’t mean she won’t ever be happy again.
