Chapter 14

Tyler was finally able to make it out of the small grocery store on St. Matthew Street in the town of Yampa. He had been wandering up and down the narrow aisles in the store looking for the supplies that Kerry, Anna, and some of the ranch hands had asked him for when he was on his way into town. Tyler had stopped off at the flower station and was eyeing some beautiful wildflowers to give to Kerry, but then thought that it was too soon, and she would probably beat him over the head with the bouquet, as she was still skittish about what was happening between them and was still pushing him to give up the land to her.

During his search, he had run into his high school teacher Mrs. Martin and got caught up with her. Then a friend of his father had stopped him to chat. Tyler had even run into his old girlfriend Tammy, and she introduced him to the newest addition to the already growing brood of children she had. Tammy gushed that she and her hubby had recently bought a house in Yampa because their family had grown out of the house they had in Parshall. Tyler had to admit motherhood suited Tammy very well, and he was happy she had settled down and found love and now was moving to a new home.

Tyler thought he would never get out of the store with everyone stopping him to chat. Then he had a moment of unease, when the cashier eyed the box of condoms he needed to pick up for himself. He had laughed it off by saying it had been another ranch hand that had asked him to pick it up. It was a good thing he decided against the flowers because those plus the condoms would be a dead giveaway that he wasn’t being honest.

Tyler was ready to take it to the next level with Kerry. The sweet kisses that they shared, and the heavy foreplay that they got to do every chance when they were alone and the house was asleep, was getting to be too much for him. Tyler used every opportunity he got, whether it was in the barn while they finished brushing down the horses, out in the pasture working together alone, the cave that was in between their land and Calum’s, or on the swing. The swing had become their favorite spot, and he was sporting a hard-on all the time now. Everything about her excited him, from the feel of her skin to the light lavender scent of the perfume that she wore, down to her smile and the laugh that put a twinkle in her dark eyes. The past couple of days had been a time of discovery for them both as they talked and shared ideas and dreams.

Tyler loved listening to Kerry and her ideas for the ranch, her sadness over what happened between her and Calum and how she missed him and hadn’t heard from him.
