Chapter 17
Cameron
I got roped into Baileyâs wedding madness on Saturday. She texted me at a godawful hour in the morning, reminding me to get my butt down to the tailor by nine thirtyâsharp. I was starting to feel less and less enamored of her love story. I was close to floating the idea of elopement and Vegas, but then I remembered that she knew where I lived. I choose life.
When I walked into the little shop, it was already full of people from the wedding party. Garrick, the groom, immediately became my favorite because he shoved a cup of coffee in my hand before he even said hello. I thought about informing him that his wife to be was a harridan with no respect for sleep, but he had to already know that. Besides, telling someone that his future wife was annoying as hell seemed like more of a best man thing.
Garrickâs younger brothers Blake and Clark were also there getting measured. They were both redheaded, brown-eyed, and about the same height. They even had some of the same mannerisms. When I asked if they were twins, they scoffed at me, which probably meant that neither one of them had ever walked past a mirror. I couldnât tell them apart to save my life, so I just mashed their names together and referred to them both as Blark.
Garrickâs college roommate, Beau, I knew a little more intimately. Iâd dated him for six months before heâd pushed for us to move in together. When Iâd said I didnât think it was a good idea, heâd accused me of still being in love with Journey. And donât you dare deny it, heâd snapped.
So⦠yeah. Good times.
Also in the room was a shy guy named Ben, who happened to be the tailor, and his assistant. The guys kept up a running chatter that I listened to with one ear, my thoughts drifting to Journey. No surprise there. I wanted to meet with him again, but I didnât want to seem too desperate. I mean, we were supposed to be having fun and keeping things easy breezy. None of that included texting someone less than six hours after he blew you in the shower and you returned the favor for him on the sink. Right?
I was too old for games and keeping score about who liked whom the most and who texted first. Journey wasnât going to be in Coral Cove much longer. I didnât want to waste any of that time trying to play it cool. With that decided, I pulled out my phone and unleashed a literary masterpiece.
Hi.
Luckily for me, he didnât seem to care about the night after rules, either. He texted right back, no cooling period required. Youâre cute.
Not that Iâm about to argue the obvious, but thatâs a bit random.
I just thought you should know. In case no one told you that today.
The tailor did, I teased back.
Tell that homewrecker mitts off.
I chuckled.
âSurely Cam wouldnât mind,â Garrick said to my left.
