Instead of going to her houseboat, we talked Lindsay into coming back to ours. For one thing, our entertainment deck was one deck higher than on hers, giving us more privacy from the dock to be able to talk openly. Plus, we are two boats out beyond Murphâs Merritt. At her boat, he would have to pass by every time he came and went. So, she quickly agreed. She made her call to Dickie from our boat. He was completely unaware of what had transpired, Murph hadnât contacted him, and he was not a happy camper. By the end of her call, I had made each of us a drink and we all settled in on the couch across from the bar.
âI like being out beyond the Irish Luck. If I end up staying here on the houseboat, I might move it down a few slips. Of course, Iâm just assuming that heâll live on the Merritt.â
I glanced over at Kari, who was on the other side of Lindsay. I saw that we both had been caught off guard by the thought that she might possibly move off the houseboat or even away from Mallard Cove.
Kari spoke up, âYou might want to move slowly, Linds, maybe this whole thing with Murph will blow over and you guys can mend fences. Not to bring up a bad subject two weeks before we get married, but Marlin and I had our issues at first over the idea of getting married, too. I almost let my dad talk me into breaking up with him.â
Lindsay replied, âYeah, but he didnât show up the next day with a butt-flossed bimbo now did he? Marâs not that kind of guy. No, I shouldâve known that Murph would want to go back to being a player and never settle down. The thing is, when our relationship was good it was so damn good, you know what I mean? I guess I just wanted that to last a lot more than he did. But heâs made it crystal clear that nobody is going to push him into anything, especially not an engagement and marriage. And Iâm through pushing, except when he puts an investment of mine at risk over some cheap French piece of ass. How could he have been so stupid!â
