Even though he was marking the line at the back of my head I could still smell the weed on his fingertip. He pushed the brim of his black cap a bit higher on his wide forehead.
“It’ll soon be done, Hombre. I’m just touching up the sideburns. Chill Man.”
"She’ll be here soon, you know, and I haven’t washed my hair yet.” And then I worsened the time situation to him by adding “Plus, I haven’t even bathed yet.”
I wasn’t going to bathe again before Tori reached my place. I had no intention to. I have this weird thing about me that I have to bathe just before I have sex. Especially when it promises to be as exciting as this. I needed to be the squeakiest clean I could be, for sweet Jesus alone knows what heights of ecstasy will happen tonight.
I only told Bucks that because I wanted him to leave. I wanted to have total privacy from the minute Tori walked through the gate. No third person to be worrying about shooing away.
4:46. My phone rang.
Tori.
“I’ll be there soon. I just stepped into a taxi at Spanish Town. Chartering it from Spanish town to come by you to save time. So I should reach you in ’bout twenty minutes.”
“Cool, Boo. Mwahz!”
“Hurry up my brother. She said she just reached in Portmore and she’ll be here in less than five minutes.”
Thinking about some of the surprising things I planned to do to Tori in bed that night, I grinned from ear to ear, softly nodding yes, yes, yes. Then Bucks killed my vibes.
“Yow, wanted to give my phone a quick charge because the battery dying.”
The smile disappeared from my face. For real? Charge your phone now, really?
“No. You can’t charge it now. You have to leave. You have to leave now.”
4:49.
I shoved the gate closed once I ushered Bucks through, hurriedly getting rid of him. No more problems. No more glitches. I had to make everything smooth from here on. After all, I had put in so much preparation for this already.
“Thanks, Bro. Shout you later.”
“Yeah Man, later,” I replied and swiftly turned my back.
“Wait. Wait! You have any cash on you, Bro?” he asked.
Jesus man, why wouldn’t Bucks just leave? I only had the five grand that was still in the other pants pocket, so if Bucks wanted money I had to go back inside and get it, taking up more precious time. “Yeah. How much you want?”
“’Bout four or five grand till Tuesday.”
“Four.”
I had five but I couldn’t leave myself broke. I had to hurry, time was flying by. I ran from the gate, fumbled with the lock on the grill to get it open, flew through it and into my bedroom, grabbed my pants. Searched the pockets for money, found it, peeled off the four thousand and had one thousand dollars left in straight hundred dollar notes. I stuffed it back in my jeans front pocket. Ran back through the grill and handed Bucks the cash over my gate.
