and fears subsided. He pressed close to the beating of her heart, her pulse, her very core.

Their eyes met and held as he pressed to her. She sucked in a breath as they became one. "Oh, Ramsey, my love—" was all she managed before he began to move with her in a powerful, rocking rhythm that put all other dances she had ever known to shame.

"I will love you until the day I die!" She heard his words hot in her ear before she soared a second time. She had not dreamed such heights were possible, not even among her majestic mountains.

Why was it, she asked him later drowsily, that important, life-changing things had to happen so fast? They clung to every moment, refusing to sleep even when exhaustion and emotion swamped them.

"I will not feel whole again until I see you in London or Sherpuddle!" he said. "Write me ahead if you can, and I will meet the ship. After her baby comes, nothing must delay you!"

"It won't! You've been generous with money for my trip and the baby. Oh, Ramsey, I grieve so deeply for her and feel so guilty when I have you and the rest of our lives to look forward to."

"Remember, even apart, we share everything now, my darling, the wealth, the loneliness, the pain, but all the joy

His kiss stilled her lips and seared her soul. In desperate desire, they blended to lose their separate identities again. She rose to meet his passion, moving in circles of love. Her arms entwined his neck, her legs embraced his, she gave and took. And in their quiet moments, she prayed that the harsh shocks of life were past and that the love they shared would somehow make the world lovely again.
