Chapter Eleven
Warm water glided down Meganâs back, washing away the tension rocking through her. She didnât want to seduce a man for work â she wasnât that person. Yet, that was exactly what sheâd agreed to do.
âThe price of freedom is steep.â Tipping her head back, Megan closed her eyes.
Hankâs sparkling emerald eyes haunted her. So did his all too perfect teeth. She could feel his smile. Meganâs eyes popped open as she realized she could, in fact, feel the warmth of happiness his smile brought to her.
Cringing as the water rushed into her eyes, Megan jolted out from under the showerâs spray.
Hank Costas wasnât the man she needed him to be. Megan needed the cocky, rich playboy the media made him out to be in the few articles she found on him.
âThatâs why there were only a few.â
Hank was a great guy. Did he chase adrenaline highs? She wasnât certain. Heâd been in the news for jumping in front of a car and for tackling an armed stalker who shot him. Plus, heâd jumped in front of Nathanâs car instead of just tugging her out of the way. That seemed to be his only fault.
âAnd youâre going to destroy him for your freedom.â Megan winced as she touched the shower handle and the heat from standing under the spray for nearly an hour burned her. âYou deserve that.â Sighing, she grabbed the plush white towel draped over the bar and put it to her face. âA kind, decent man, who respects when you say no is going to get duped by a selfish brat. Merry Christmas to him.â Because, when everything was said and done, Megan would do what her uncle needed her to do. She didnât believe Hank would sell, but she could damn sure try to get Nathan the information he wanted.
âMegan?â Hankâs voice called before a hard knock.
âHe got the text.â Groaning softly, Megan wrapped the towel around her body. âJust a moment, please!â Reaching for her pajamas she stopped. âIâm going to hell for this.â Megan stuffed the end of the towel into the top, closed her eyes and apologized to Hank, and walked to pull open the door. âYou got my text.â
He did nothing. His eyes did what a manâs eyes would do for a split second and then he glanced away. âI, Iâm sorry.â
âIâm sure youâve seen a naked woman before, and I chose to come to the door in a towel.â
A noise similar to a squeak emanated before Hank cleared his throat. âDo you want to get dressed?â
âSure thing. Come in, my clothes are in the bathroom, I can close the door.â She resisted the urge to chuckle. A man like Hank didnât strike her as someone who would feel uncomfortable around a naked woman. She walked back to the bathroom and closed the door.
Wet towel off, Megan resented not having clean underwear. Youâll just shower again. This one wasnât about getting clean, anyway. Despite being amused by Hankâs adorable embarrassment, she didnât feel proud of what she did.
