When I go to Paris to visit my French friend Muriel (I call her Murf), who I’ve known since college, we always make it a point to have tea on the Place de la Madeleine and then stop for traditional French macaroons at Ladurée. The ones I love are made into small sandwich cookies and come in all sizes and pastel colors. Lined up in their glass case in Paris, they look like jewels waiting to be bought and worn. Once I’m back in the States in my own kitchen, they look more like little hamburgers, so on Tru’s dessert cart I affectionately call them “burgers.” The white chocolate filling recipe here makes a little more than you’ll need, but extra is good spread on top of cupcakes or graham crackers or sandwiched between ladyfingers or vanilla wafers.
