“I already knew you looked incredible covered in water from earlier.” Her mind flashed back to a soaked Steph. To her nipples in that dress. “But I prefer you naked.” Erin gave Steph a wide grin. It didn’t convey how she was feeling. Nerves jangled all over her body. She’d made the move, and Steph had followed. Now Erin’s resolve wobbled just like the water all around them.

“Nadia and I used to skinny dip all the time in the lochs on Skye. I stopped doing it after she died.” Erin closed her eyes. She was babbling to fill the space. Why had she brought up Nadia? She might be on her mind, but it wasn’t sexy.

Steph moved closer to her. Dusky moonlight danced in her hair. “You haven’t done it since?”

Erin shook her head. “No.”

“Then I’m glad I’m here with you.”

“I am, too.” Erin tingled all over. “Even if it did mean taking your clothes off, which wasn’t in your contract. I promise I’ll give you a good tip.”

Their gazes locked.

An undeniable thirst streaked through her. It was thirst for Steph, and nobody else.

“No tip required.”

Erin tried not to look down.

“But now we’re naked, we have two options. We could float, dry off, and pretend we’re not attracted to each other.”

Erin’s lips quirked up at the edges. This was no time to pretend. “What’s the second option?”

“We don’t float, don’t get dry, and don’t pretend.”

Steph’s bravery was such a turn-on. It was also inspiring.

Erin reached out and pulled Steph to her, then draped her arms around her neck. Their naked bodies touched, and it was almost too much for Erin. It had been so long since she’d been naked with anyone. Too long. Why had she denied herself all this time? She knew why. Because she didn’t want to get involved with anyone in case they disappeared. The pain of Nadia had been too much. It was always there, flickering away in the background of her life, on standby. But Steph was right in front of her now, offering her a chance to reach for who she truly was.

Would Erin still remember how to do it? She wouldn’t know until she tried.

“I vote for option two.”

The water rippled its applause as their bodies pressed together.

“We’re in agreement.” Steph’s gaze landed on Erin’s lips, and within seconds, she closed the gap between them.

Erin gasped as they connected once more. The intensity of the kiss shouldn’t have shocked her, but it did. It reaffirmed what she’d thought earlier.

This wasn’t usual. Steph wasn’t usual. They weren’t usual. With usual dates, you built up to a first kiss, to no clothes. But this wasn’t a first date. Steph was on a time-limited offer. Love her or lose her. The clock was ticking. Erin chose love.

If Morag could see her now, she’d applaud. Morag had said that Erin needed to let go, to let someone in. And yes, this someone might be fleeting, and after Monday, they might never see each other again, but maybe that was the reason Erin was prepared to open up.
