Manager Role and Responsibilities

There are five primary roles for managers and supervisors as Change Readiness Leaders:

Communicator

Advocate

Coach

Liaison

Resistance Minimizer

In order for them to be successful in this role they will need to:

a. Have their boss acknowledge the importance of their role and also reinforce accountability for a successful launch in their area by including this responsibility in their performance objectives

b. Understand the benefits and impact of the change and be able to explain it to their employees

c. Have accurate and timely information on the initiative so they can communicate effectively with their direct reports

d. Be given an opportunity to voice their concerns and objections so they feel that they have been heard and will no longer have a reason to resist.

e. Understand the techniques for turning resistors into advocates outlined in Chapter Three so that they can support their direct reports, as well as deal with their own fears, during the transition process.
