“OLIVER!” I yell as I bust into his room. It looks like he’s just gotten back from doing whatever he’d been doing with Hudson’s soul.

“What?” he asks.

“Bastian just kissed me,” I say.

Oliver sighs. It’s a long sigh filled with dread. “Of course he did.”

“What?” I stare at this man who has to be even more confused than I am to be saying of course.

“I swear to god, Andras, if you haven’t noticed Bastian staring at you or blushing or checking you out, then you have to be the densest man I’ve ever met.”

My forehead wrinkles as I contemplate this. “You mean… he was blushing, and it wasn’t a reaction to me annoying him?”

“Andras…” Oliver just stares at me. “You can’t be that dense.”

“And that’s clearly where you’re wrong,” I realize. Am I that dense? Did I really miss all the signs?

“Look at me,” Oliver says as he grabs me.

“Hmm?”

“You’re not looking at me.”

I grudgingly look over at him. “I already have a very good idea what you’re going to say. Funnily enough, you don’t even need to say it.”

“I’m still going to say it since you’re obviously a very dense man. You cannot get attached to Bastian. You can’t be in a relationship with him, do you understand? This”—he waves at both of us—“all of this that we’ve worked for, all that we have to accomplish can’t happen if we let Bastian live. Do you understand? He is a part of them.”

I sigh and slump down on his bed as I realize how unfair he is. Not like I’m surprised. Oliver has always been the more reasonable one between us.

“Don’t do it, Andras,” he says.

“Do what?” I ask.

Oliver’s eyes narrow as I continue to wallow in his bed knowing for sure that he’s never going to hear about what happened when I let Bastian’s magic touch mine. “Don’t. You know what I’m talking about.”

“Hmm…”

“Could you kill me?” he asks.

“What kind of question is that?”

“Then use your damn brain. I’m saying that you can’t kill people you care about. So stay away from Bastian.”

“Yeah,” I say, although I’m not quite sure what to believe. All thoughts of that get pushed to the side as a hammering starts on the door.

Oliver pulls it open and Roman looks in at him before his eyes flicker to mine and he freezes.

“What’s going on?” he asks, even though I’m pretty sure he should be telling us why he’s hammering away at the door.

“Chase was needing some help. I’m not sure I helped him much, but ah well. As long as he listens, everything will be fine,” Oliver says like I’m not the king of listening. “What’s going on?”

“We got an alert that either Hudson’s monitor is damaged or something happened to him. We’re sending a team out immediately to help locate him. Please grab your things and meet us out front.”

“Of course,” Oliver says as Roman turns and hurries off.

“I didn’t know they monitored everyone,” I say.

“Yeah, it’s located in their watch.”

“Like these?” I ask as I show off my watches.
