CHAPTER TEN

I woke early, after a restless night. I'd spent hours

thinking about what had happened and wondered what

I could do to fix it. Problem was, it wasn't something I

wanted to fix. I wanted Cohen in my bed every night.

Wanted to feel his body against mine and bring him

pleasure just as I had.

I made my way to the kitchen, ready to face

whatever the falout might be. Several times through the

night, I'd thought about going to his room and talking

about it, but I figured the way he left meant that he

didn't want to discuss what happened.

I debated on caling Richard to come get me, or

even taking one of Cohen's trucks, but I'd ran away last

time and wasn't about to make the same mistake again.

No, I would face this head on, and no matter what the

falout might be, I would deal with it. I could handle

Cohen rejecting the sex, but I wasn't sure I could

handle losing our friendship again.

"Morning." Cohen sat at the kitchen table. He stil

wore the sweats and shirt he'd been in the night before.

He didn't look as if he slept any better than I had. He

palmed a cup of coffee and nodded to the pot on the

counter. "Coffee's hot."

"Thanks." I reached for a cup and filed it. I leaned

against the counter, blowing over my cup.

"You hate me?"

"No." I stared at him shocked. "How could you

think I would hate you?"

He shrugged. "The way I left you last night."

"I understand." I didn't realy, but I didn't know

what to say.

"I can't do this. I enjoyed what we did, what you

did, but I can't…" He shook his head and stared out the

window.

"That's okay. It happened. We both enjoyed it,

now we move on. I'm not going to force anything on

you that you're not comfortable with." I ignored the pain

that surged through me at hearing him once again say he

didn't want me.

"Can you?"

"I can."

"I know how you feel."

"I've felt that way about you for years, Cohen. I

can handle it. I faced the fact that you weren't gay years

ago. What happened last night was amazing, and I

won't say I didn't enjoy it, but if you don't want anything

more, then I can deal with that."

"I'm sorry."

I moved to the chair beside him. "Don't be. It

happened. We can't undo it. We go on. Forget it

happened."

He nodded and took a sip of his coffee.

"Do you want me to quit coming around?" I held

my breath as I waited for the answer.

His head shot up. "No. I don't want that."

He looked so tired. I had no doubt that he'd spent

most the night thinking about this. "Then let's just forget it okay. It happened, done, and over. We are mature

enough to move on."

"I feel bad. I know you want more."

"Cohen, yes, I'm attracted to you, but I would

never force you to be someone you're not. You are my

best friend. I don't want that to change. That means

more to me than sex does."

"Okay." He didn't sound convinced.

I sipped my coffee. "Then we won't bring it up

again." I smiled at him. "It's not going to change

anything.
