Chapter 12 - Lex

The moment Grace stepped into Lex’s office, he was astonished at the sight of her. Not only because she was just as radiant and beautiful as he remembered her being the night before, but he wondered why she would come anywhere near him after what they had done.

Just the sight of her made him bite his lip as he remembered how incredible it had felt to bury himself inside her. Ten years had been one hell of a long time to wait, and yet, he felt that their second time together was just as passionate as the first had been. It was impossible to forget.

“Grace, if you have to come yell at me again, I…” Lex began, rising from his chair with his hands raised in surrender, but he did not get the chance to finish as she stormed into the room and slammed the door shut behind her.

“My son is missing!” she announced, and the concern in her tone was abundantly clear.

A shiver ran down Lex’s spine. The wild fear in her gaze was enough to set his teeth on edge. “What do you mean missing?”

Grace’s gaze darkened, and she scowled at him. “What I mean is he’s missing. He was home when I left for the store, and now he isn’t. He left no note, and there’s no sign of him anywhere.”

Lex opened his mouth to suggest that maybe the boy just went out to let off some steam, remembering all too well how he had shifted and disappeared into the park, but Grace added, “And as you so ruthlessly pointed out, you are alpha here. And when a werewolf pup goes missing in your territory, it’s as much your problem as it is mine, to put it plainly.”

A growl rumbled deep in Lex’s throat. He would have liked to deny everything Grace had just said, but she was right. A missing werewolf pup, not to mention one who could already shift at ten years old, was most definitely his problem.

Biting his lip, Lex had to stop himself from asking, Why don’t you give his dad a call? This certainly wasn’t the time to open that can of worms again. Besides, he felt a stab of guilt that he was the reason she was here in this state. Blake had shifted and run off after talking to him.

Cringing with that knowledge, he sucked in a deep breath and closed his eyes before saying, “I have a fairly good idea of where to find him.”

He didn’t need to open his eyes to feel the tension coming off Grace in waves, but he did so, anyway. When he saw the confusion on her face, bile rose in his throat. He knew what was coming.

“How…how could you possibly?”

Stomach twisting, Lex explained, “Because I came looking for you this morning, but Blake told me you went to the grocery store…”

“I didn’t go to the…” Grace began, but she cut herself off, her lips pursing.

Lex raised an eyebrow. Why would Blake lie about something like that? Then he realized it didn’t really matter.
