âOkay, are you ready?â Morgan asked her parents. âReady,â Mom and Dad said while holding each other.
The trail to Angels Landing
âWhen I say three, kiss!â Morgan looked through the camera lens. She adjusted the zoom. âOne. Two. Three.â
Her parents looked at each other and then kissed.
Morgan snapped the picture.
âItâs too bad we didnât have romantic music playing in the background,â James joked.
We went out there?!
âWhat do you mean?â Dad said. âI thought we did!â
âThat was perfect,â Morgan said. âI got you two smooching and all of Zion Canyon in the background.â
âThat was perfect,â Mom agreed. âJust as it was when your father and I first met here twenty years ago.â
âYou really met right here?â James asked.
âRight here, on this very trail,â Dad said. âWe both hiked up here on our day off.â
âI was working at the park visitor center,â Mom said. âI think I had seen your dad there a few times, but we never spoke.â
âI was working at the lodge,â Dad said. âWhen I saw your mom up here, I knew it was my lucky day.â
âKind of like destiny,â Morgan said.
âThatâs right, destiny,â Mom agreed. âCome here, you two.â She hugged her twins as they all stood together on the top of Angels Landing.
âItâs amazing up here, isnât it?â Morgan asked, looking down at the canyon below.
âThereâs a bus on the road!â James called out. âIt looks so tiny.â
âDonât get too close to that cliff,â Mom warned, reaching for Jamesâs arm.
âIâm all right,â James said.
âItâs only a 1,500-foot drop,â Dad said. âStraight down. You can understand our worry.â
The family looked around at the view. From the top of Angels Landing, they could see all of Zion Canyon, including the Weeping Rock Trail. Across the canyon were the Great White Throne and Cable Mountain. Farther up the canyon, the cliffs got closer together, and the road disappeared at the Temple of Sinawava.
âThatâs where weâre going to be tomorrow?â Morgan asked, looking toward the end of the road.
âActually, the day after,â Dad said. âIt will take us two days to get there and then out of the Narrows.â
âWe would have been going there today,â Mom said, âbut the rangers recommended against it. Thereâs still a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, believe it or not.â Mom looked up at the clear skies. âSo thereâs a chance of high water. Itâs too dangerous to be in there today.â
