Why Me?

After that night at my house, I kind of started blowing John off. The love I started having for him quickly faded. We hung out a few times, but I was no longer intimate with him other than a few kisses. I tried to tell him I just wanted to be friends, but he started to get clingy. One night, he called me, and I answered the phone in a deep voice.

“You have the wrong number,” I said.

I guess he got the hint because he never called back after that. I saw him in school, but I ignored him when he called my name. Since school was almost over and he would be graduating, I wouldn’t have to deal with him anymore.

Seventh period was long and drawn out. I wasn’t feeling well, and most of my day was spent running back and forth to the bathroom to vomit. When class was over, I ran to the closest restroom. Tammy and Keisha were in the hall when they saw me fly past. Keisha called my name, but I ignored her. Realizing something was wrong, they ran in the bathroom after me, and when they entered, I was at the sink splashing water on my face.

“Girl, are you okay?” Keisha asked.

“No, I think I may be coming down with the flu,” I responded.

Feeling wetness in my panties, I ran into a bathroom stall.

“Fuck! I thought I was coming on my period!” I yelled as I exited the stall.

“So!” Tammy and Keisha responded in unison.

“I haven’t come on this month. My titties are getting bigger, and they’re tender. Yet, my period didn’t come yet,” I explained.

“It will come soon. So why do you think you’re coming down with something?” Tammy asked.

“Because I keep throwing up, and I feel sick as shit,” I replied.

“It’s probably all that weird shit you’ve been eating these past few weeks,” Tammy responded.

“No, it’s not that. I’ve been craving that food. I know I don’t normally eat that stuff, but I’ve wanted it lately,” I replied.

“Huh? What other symptoms are you having?” Tammy asked.

“Damn, bitch. What are you, Dr. Diva now?” I asked, while laughing.

“No, I’m just trying to make sure your ass is okay,” Tammy responded with concern.

“The smell of food makes me sick. Anything I eat makes me throw up, I stopped eating the food I normally eat, I’ve been extra tired all the time lately, I’m cranky, and I cry for no damn reason. Not to mention, I’ve missed my period. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with me,” I explained.

“Monique! Girl, you’re pregnant. Everything you just said are symptoms of pregnancy,” Keisha stated.

“Keisha, shut the fuck up! I am not pregnant,” I replied, while rolling my eyes.

“Mo, she’s serious. After school, we’re going to stop by the drugstore and get a test. We can go back to my house so you can take it,” Tammy said quickly.

I leaned over the sink and began to cry, while Keisha and Tammy hugged me tightly.
